The exam duration for the TOEFL language certificate is approximately 4.5 hours. The candidate can choose between two variants of the test: the PBT (Paper Based Test) and the iBT (Internet Based Test). Since June 2017, the PBT test (also in paper version) has been more aligned with the iBT. In the PBT, questions are answered with pen and paper. It includes listening comprehension, structure and written expression as well as reading comprehension. Likewise, an essay on a given topic should be written. The test checks the tester’s ability to perform academic tasks in an English speaking environment. In the iBT test, on the other hand, is a language test that is performed on a computer over the Internet; the questions consist in part of multiple choice questions. The questions are similar on both tests and the type of test chosen has no effect on the language certificate. Our TOEFL courses prepare you for either exam.
